Environment
Delhi is an Urban Ecosystem which has exceptionally high air pollution levels. The transport sector is the main contributor to this hazard, releasing tonnes of carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and particulate matter in the atmosphere every day.
As per the survey by the World Health Organization, the air quality in Delhi is the worst among any city in the World. The worst affected are the children in Delhi as it damages their lungs.
The particulate matter can deeply make a way into the human lungs destroying the respiratory system. Additionally, Delhi’s extensive construction activity has contaminated the city. Also, many trees have been cut due to the construction of Delhi Metro and Rapid Transit System.
Trees are essential part of our environment. They release oxygen and absorb carbon along with other particulate matters that eventually helps in regulating micro-climates. Trees are a major source of maintaining and sustaining the local biodiversity by improving natural habitats.
Furthermore, trees provide shelter and food to diverse species. Trees also reduce water and air temperatures and contribute to the overall health of ecosystems.
Thus, our NGO has planned to initiate with a project of planting trees in the urban landscape of Delhi. Trees will purify atmosphere within a few hundred meters of the plantation range. To start with, shrubs will be planted along the roads and schools to reduce dust pollution.
Our step toward the better of the environment will contribute positively. It is expected to increase the green cover in Delhi which will help reduce air pollution which is responsible for major respiratory health hazards.
